Challenges in the Decision Making Process
3 key factors in the decision making process
Decision making in the business world can be very difficult and complicated. There are many different aspects a manager must look at before making a decision. The three key factors in the managerial decision making process are making ethical decisions, making creative decisions, and making decisions that benefit the majority over yourself.
Making Ethical Decisions
In today's fast paced and ever changing world, it is important to take a step back and analyze your decisions. One useful question can help you determine if the decision your making is ethical or not. That question is, "How would others view my decisions?" Asking this simple question can open your perspective greatly. Another useful tool you can use to help stomp this challenge is to think of someone you idolize or look up to. Once you've done this, ask yourself, "What would they do? What would they think of the decision I'm making?" Doing this can help you make smarter choices that are in your business's and society's best interest.

Making Creative Decisions
In many workplaces, employees are taught that there is one best way to complete tasks; however, this information is actually misleading. In the case of a manager, you must be able to look outside the box and be creative in the decision making process. Although the one best way may work in most cases, there will more than likely come times when the fit solution will not solve the problem at hand and you will have to adjust and be creative with your solution. Some of the biggest factors that drive creativity in the workplace include expertise on the task at hand, your pre-existing creativity skills, and your motivation to complete the task. Furthermore, creativity is a very important tool in group decision making. Everybody has a different thought process and different levels of creativity. It is important while working in a group to analyze input from every member in order to utilize everybody's point of view and skill sets in the decision making process.

Making Decisions that Benefit the Group Over Yourself
In almost any career and business, most employees want to focus on themselves and move up the chain of command in order to receive better pay, benefits, etc.; however, when it comes to the topic of making decisions based on the individual aspect and the group aspect, it is important to direct your values and focus towards the group. When you are a part of that group, not only do the decisions made affect you, but they affect the group as a whole. Therefore if you were making decisions to only benefit yourself, you would still suffer the same results the group will face and you will have the feeling of guilt on your conscious because of the selfish decision you made. Furthermore, working in a group can help ease the decision making process greatly. When you work as a group to make certain decisions, you have an endless amount of skills, views, and expertise's that can be evaluated during the decision making process.
