Crisis

Hospitals have on average 50 surgeries a day. Starting from 7 am and going up till 7 pm. Now imagine how a blackout would completely throw a wrench into your day. Could you finish up the surgeries or would you completely stop due to the safety and risk that some life-threatening surgeries are able to be stopped? The clock is ticking...what do you do!

Exploring Crisis

A crisis is an unexpected situation that can quickly lead to a disaster if not resolved quickly and appropriately. This is the ultimate test for a leader's decision-making process.

Important rules to remember:

     1. Figure out what is going on

     2. Remember that speed matters

     3. Remember that going slow counts too

     4. Respect the danger of the unfamiliar

     5. Value the skeptic

     6. "Fight fire with fire"

Remember that during a crisis, it is important not to isolate yourself, and listen to your peers. This will result in poor leadership skill development, poor communications skills, and you will miss out on some time-sensitive information.

There are many ways to help deal with a crisis. Develop a specific team of leaders who can demonstrate and guide people to the desired goal. Communicate with everyone, making sure everyone is on the same page. Focus on what is important and find support when needed. It is important to remember that allowing others to explain their input might save you and any crisis situation.
